O Ábaco

O ábaco é um antigo instrumento de cálculo, que segundo muitos historiadores foi inventado na Mesopotâmia a aproximadamente 4500 anos atrás, pelo menos em sua forma primitiva e depois os chineses e romanos o aperfeiçoaram por volta do século I.

Ábaco é o nome geral desse instrumento, mas cada civilização deu o seu nome para ele: japonês (soroban), chinês (suan pan) grego (abax), romano (abacus), azteca (nepohualtzintzin), russo (schoty) etc..

O ábaco começou como um simples instrumento onde eram registrados valores e realizadas operações de adição e subtração.

Os objetivos do uso do ábaco são:

• Realizar contas com rapidez e perfeição, buscando alcançar o resultado sem desperdícios.
• Ajudar a desenvolver concentração, atenção, memorização, percepção, coordenação motora e cálculo mental, principalmente porque o praticante é o responsável pelos cálculos, não o instrumento.
